It was a blustery day at the 2022 National InterCounties XC Champs for the Essex Squad with a mixture of wind, rain and sun. The course at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough was very fast and undulating with most of it feeling like running on a soggy sponge!
We'd like to say massive thanks to all the athletes, coaches, parents and helpers who all mucked in to make this a special day as always.
The team was slightly depleted due to some last minute injuries and athlete "no shows" on the day but those attending dug deep and excelled themselves.
A few athletes lost shoes on the course in the mud on the day which hopefully they found later!
In pride of place, there was a massive gold medal for the U15 boys team and a huge individual 3rd place for Sam Plummer. The other team members were Arthur Ballard 10th, Joseph Grange 18th, Archie Durham 31st, Harry Wyatt 36t, Beau MacDonald 66th, Greg Martin 112th and Nate Harding 120th.
In the U13 boys there was a fine 7th place for Freddie Rowe, with Findlay McLaren 44th, George Watkins 54th, Jacob Parrott 73rd, Hayden Potton 81st, Joshua Eida 107th, Ethan Brien 117th and Harry Stockill 222nd. 7th place team.
In the U17 men there was strong 7th place for Henry Dover, with Will Nuttall 27th, Sam Riley 68th, Joseph Perry 108th and Ronan Edwards 186th. 9th place team.
The U20 men were down to 3 brave competitors, Joel Doye 62nd, Thomas Woodward 87th and Alex Ford 101st.
Finally after the long day it was the senior men's turn with Ben Felton 35th, Zach Bridgeland, 55th, Steve Strange 68th, David Fewell 94th, John Payne 113th, Angus Holford, 119th, Taite Wallis 133rd and James Stewart 171st. 9th place team.
Right, that's me signing off for the season see you next winter for more fun in the mud !!!!
