The annual Essex Road Relay Race is usually held in March is currently hosted by Harwich Runners. The race has a long history and is a mainstay of the Essex road racing calendar. A recent innovation to the race is a hand held baton that is handed from runner to runner. Lap times are recorded when the baton passes under an arch at the completion of each lap.
